Some students do work part-time during a Masters. The limited contact time for some courses can make it easier to balance work and study, but you should resist the temptation to take on too many working hours: a Masters requires much more independent study time than a Bachelors.

Do you need mPhil to take Ph.D? The MPhil is a less advanced qualification than the PhD in which the student is expected to master a content area and can be completed in two years' full-time study.
Another question to consider when deciding on “to PhD or not to PhD” is whether getting a doctoral degree will make you earn more money compared to having a master’s or a bachelor’s degree. In a 2004 study, Peter J. Sloane and Nigel C. O'Leary found that men with a PhD earn 31 % more than men with secondary education, whereas women with a PhD earn 60 % more than women with secondary.
You don't really shorten your path. The same number of hours are required to receive a Ph.D. whether or not you get a masters in between. For instance, a typical master's degree requires 30 hours. A Ph.D. will require 60. If you already have a Master's 30 of those will be the Master's and you will need 30 more.
